FXRISK Manual

Hidden Liquidity

Liquidity that is not visible in the displayed order book (iceberg orders, dark pools, internalized flow).

Why it matters

The visible book is not the full market. Hidden liquidity can absorb moves or suddenly disappear, making price action look ‘mysterious’ if you assume the book is complete.

Trading use: the point is not vocabulary. The point is prediction: what changes when this shows up?

Common trap

Reading the displayed book as truth. Visible depth can be spoofed or irrelevant if real liquidity sits hidden elsewhere.

Example

The book looks thin, but price doesn’t move much because a hidden buyer absorbs every sell. Then the buyer stops and price gaps because the hidden support vanished.

Operational cue: if you can’t point to it on the chart, in the DOM, or in your broker logs, treat it as a story and trade smaller.

Notes

Quick rule

  • If you see this repeatedly, you are in a different regime than your model assumes.
  • Regime change usually means position size change.
  • When in doubt: trade smaller, or don’t trade.
