FXRISK Manual

Iceberg Order

A large order that reveals only a small visible portion while the rest remains hidden and replenishes as the visible piece is filled.

Why it matters

Icebergs distort your read of supply and demand. What looks like ‘endless’ liquidity at a level may be a single large participant.

Decision use: treat this term as a risk input. If you can’t observe it, you can’t size for it.

Common trap

Assuming repeated prints at a price mean many independent participants. Sometimes it’s one iceberg resetting.

Example

Every time price hits 1.2500 it bounces. The book shows little size there, but an iceberg keeps replenishing. When it finishes, the level fails quickly.

Operational cue: if you can’t point to it on the chart, in the DOM, or in your broker logs, treat it as a story and trade smaller.

Notes

Quick rule

  • If you see this repeatedly, you are in a different regime than your model assumes.
  • Regime change usually means position size change.
  • When in doubt: trade smaller, or don’t trade.
