Entries are seductive because they feel like control. But the exit rules and position sizing are what shape the payoff distribution.
Without exit rules, you either cut winners early (fear) or hold losers too long (hope). Both destroy expectancy.
A strategy with a mediocre entry and excellent exits can survive. A strategy with perfect entries and chaotic exits usually can’t.
Process upgrade: turn this truth into a rule you can actually enforce. If the rule can’t be enforced, it will be broken under stress.

- Write the penalty for breaking it.

Hunt perfect entry → enter late/rarely → no exit plan → emotional management → break-even scratches / premature exits → frustration → overtrade → bleed.

Design exits first: invalidation, profit-taking, and time rules.
Then pick entries that are good enough to express the plan.
If you can’t describe your winner management, you’re not done.

Example archetype
You time entries beautifully but always ‘take profit quickly’ because you fear giving it back. The market trends without you. Your entries were fine. Your payoff shape was broken.
Tell: if your rule isn’t enforceable, it’s a suggestion. Suggestions don’t survive stress.
