FXRISK Manual

Risk Limits Without Enforcement Are Fiction

If your risk limits depend on willpower, they will fail on the exact day they were designed for.

Mechanism

Risk limits are most needed under stress: after losses, during volatility, or after big wins. Those are the exact moments when judgement degrades and overrides feel “reasonable”.

If your limits are just intentions, they are negotiable. Negotiable limits become optional under adrenaline.

Professionals treat limits as infrastructure: hard caps, automation, and friction that makes rule-breaking harder than compliance.

Process upgrade: turn this truth into a rule you can actually enforce. If the rule can’t be enforced, it will be broken under stress.

  • Write the trigger condition in observable terms.
  • Write the action in one sentence.
  • Write the penalty for breaking it.
How it kills accounts

Limits exist on paper → stress day arrives → override feels justified → risk spikes → losses cluster → forced liquidation / deep drawdown → post-mortem regret.

How it kills accounts:

  1. The rule exists only in your head.
  2. Stress arrives and you improvise.
  3. Improvisation becomes inconsistency.
  4. Inconsistency becomes random results.
  5. Random results become a slow bleed.
Rule that survives

Use hard daily loss limits and max position caps.
Add friction to changing limits (cooldown period, written reason, next-day rule).
Track overrides as a separate metric; if they don’t add expectancy, remove them.

Rule that survives:

  • Write the trigger in observable terms.
  • Write the action in one sentence.
  • Write the penalty for breaking it.
Example archetype

You planned a daily max loss, but after two losses you decide “one more trade”. That becomes five more trades. The limit was real only when you felt calm.

Tell: if your rule isn’t enforceable, it’s a suggestion. Suggestions don’t survive stress.

Deep dive

Infrastructure beats intention

Most blowups are not lack of knowledge. They’re lack of enforcement.

Glossary: risk creep, drawdown, discretion.

Field checklist

  • Write the rule in observable terms: if X, then Y.
  • Remove choices under stress. Choices become rationalizations.
  • Track the precursor: what state were you in before the mistake?
  • Make deviations costly (size down, pause, review).
  • Turn lessons into gates, not notes.
